Meet our volunteer of the year

For 2018, the honor of being our Christy Caswell Volunteer of the Year goes to Misty Emerick, who volunteers as our GIS (Geographic Information Specialist). Misty produces orthographic and topographic maps for the Trust. These special maps enable our stewardship staff and volunteers to monitor our sanctuaries with increased accuracy, making her efforts an invaluable contribution to sanctuary stewardship.

Misty earned her MA in Sustainable Communities and her undergraduate degree in Geography/Environmental Planning, and she previously interned at the United States Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service on their Wetland Reserve Program.

Currently, Misty is working toward a certificate in GIS, and she chose to volunteer her growing expertise in this field for the Trust because she shares its humane values, particularly our steadfast commitment to prohibiting recreational and commercial hunting and trapping on protected sanctuaries.

Misty, we celebrate your crucial role in our shared mission. Congratulations and we thank you!
